Genus: Euphorbia Family: Euphorbiaceae
- 'gorgonis' in Latin means "of the Gorgon"; for the medusoid growth form;
- spineless, small growing, species of the 'medusa head' type of euphorbia;
- deep tap root that merge into a broad subglobose main stem (caudex).
Origin and habitat: endemic to South Africa, found in the Eastern Cape Province in the hill between Sundays River and Zwartkops River; Uniondale, Port Elizabeth and Albany Div.; Grahamstown.
Habit: easily distinguished from its allied species because of its small size and dark red or brown glands (yellow or greenish-yellow in related species).
