General description

Origin and habitat: native to rocky hillsides, shrubland, and woodland, from sout south-central Turkey to Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan; it also grows in Algeria and Tunisia and on the Greek islands of Rhodes, Karpathos, and Crete.

Altitude: up to 1,200m (3,900 ft) above sea level;

Habit:

  • flowers bloom from winter to spring;
  • goes dormant in summer.
